Branding, design and CMS website build for United Nations online magazine.
Africa Renewal Online is the online version of a United Nations publication dedicated to the analysis of news and issues in Africa.
With the magazine unchanged for near 20 years and beginning to show it, something special was required to return the design of this very important publication to the fore-front of the digital era—a Special Operation in branding and design.
First and foremost the logo was redesigned to move the website in line with other UN brands, whilst also bring it on par with other news organisations in the field.
Then came the website redesign and build. Initially Africa Renewal was rebuilt as a static HTML site, with a completely reworked information architecture and repurposing from simple online magazine to Africa-wide news portal, utilising the latest in jQuery, RSS, stunning photography and immaculate typography.
In stage 2 of the rebuild, the website was converted into the Drupal Content Management System, automating every single aspect of the portal, and incalculably increasing its potential and power.
Rebuild complete and mission accomplished, with SEO tweaking and design finessing traffic to the website immediately doubled, and another happy client received the Special Operations special treatment.
